British skydivers make history with live tv ad British skydivers have made television history. The first ever live advertisement on British tv featured a live skydive in which the letters H-O-N-D-A were spelt out in formation. The ad ran on Channel 4 at 2010 on Thursday 29 May. Click here to see the ad on the Honda website. Its part of the campaign for the new Honda Accord, which has the theme 'Difficult is worth doing'
Absolutely superb! My warmest congratulations to all involved. This is a magnificent achievement especially when you consider the immense pressure the Team were under knowing it was being videoed and broadcast live across a continent, notwithstanding the fact they had already achieved the formations in practice jumps. Outstanding I spoke to Andy Scott about an hour before take off and a few minutes after landing. They were all absolutely elated and really encouraged in the knowledge that the whole of the BPA were behind them. This is particularly important as all the skydivers in this ad were British BPA Members. I believe it will be linked into BJ Worth's ads for Honda with US jumpers. Let's all take a little time to reflect on the fact that this was a live transmission, Air to Air, that was watched by an estimated 2.5m viewers on Ch 4. I believe it shows the potential for promoting our sport in competition if we can just find the right format. Twenty years ago no-one would ever believe snooker could attract such vast live audiences, but look at it now. It is certainly something I shall be taking forward at IPC to seek to develop a strategy over the next 5 years using this ground-breaking TV ad, made by Brits, as a prime example. In the meantime, on behalf of the Council and the whole Membership, we send all the team our heartiest congratulations. We are so proud of them for making this ground-breaking achievement. BPA acknowledges UKS The BPA has acknowledged www.UKSkydiver.co.uk as an unofficial, independent, external online forum for skydivers in the UK. The BPA is not responsible for the content of external websites. Adrian Bond, BPA Communication Chairman, said “There is no doubt that the UKS website is an exceptional boost to communication in our sport, one which the BPA – and our Communications Committee in particular – heartily applauds.” The UKS website is run by BPA Members Stu Ferguson and Paul McCormick.
